Rivarossi’s new double-decker trains selected Model of the Year
Rivarossi’s new double-decker trains chosen as "Model of the Year"
Hornby awarded by the German magazine “Modellbahn Illustrierte”
Based on the pre-war double-decker coaches of the Lübeck Büchener Railways of North Germany in 1955 the railway industry of East Germany started developing a new generation of double-deck trains. The family of vehicles included both two unit coaches and four-unit coach-sets, partially with cab-control coaches. The GDR was able to successfully export the solid vehicles to countries such as Poland or Czechoslovakia.
Currently there are only a few of these vehicles remaining in service in Eastern Europe. In Germany they were already withdrawn in the nineties. Their popularity with railway modelers has been the reason for Rivarossi to develop this interesting family of double-decker coaches in H0 scale.
Readers of the model railroad magazine Modellbahn Illustrierte (MBI) now have chosen the Rivarossi double-decker trains from a variety of new coaches of various model train manufacturers as Model of the Year 2011 (category coaches). General Manager Knut Heilmann of Hornby Germany received the award from MBI-editor Mario Rach: "The award of the new double-deck coaches from Rivarossi is double pleasure for us – in a literal sense. On one hand it obviously shows that we succeeded with the selection of these coaches, on the other hand the award of the MBI also is the fruit of our efforts to return Rivarossi to its roots – the heart of the railway modelers. On behalf of all employees of Hornby Germany and the whole Hornby group I would therefore like to express my sincere thanks to all our customers and readers of the MBI"
